Lawson State Community College Hosts ALACRAO Jefferson County College Fair
Birmingham, AL (10/11/2023) — Hundreds of high school students from the area including Hoover, Clay-Chalkville, Tarrant City, Corner, McAdory, Centerpoint, Pinson Valley, Gardendale, and various other Jefferson County High Schools gathered on the Birmingham Campus of Lawson State Community College over the last two days to attend a college fair. This big event was put on by the Alabama Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (ALACRAO) and included colleges and universities from all over the state of Alabama including: Auburn, The University of Alabama, UAB, Jacksonville State University, Tuskegee, Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Shelton State and many others. Colleges from several other states were represented as well including schools from both Mississippi and Tennessee.
The Lawson State Admissions and Enrollment team along with the rest of the faculty and staff at the college happily rolled out the red carpet for all of those in attendance at this two-day recruitment event. The event gave high school students a chance to speak directly with spokespersons from each school in order to learn admission, financial and scholarship requirements, all while getting a better feel for which higher learning institution better fits their needs and desires.
"While the fun filled two-day event has ended, we know that these students are now more prepared to pursue the college and/or university of their choice," said Dorian Waluyn, director of Admissions and Enrollment Management. "Recruiters have the made the initial connections that will allow for follow-up conversations that will ultimately be beneficial for all."
