Lawson State Community College to Hold Fall Commencement Ceremonies In-Person
Birmingham, AL (12/06/2021) — In Fall 2021, Lawson State Community College reopened its campuses to students with a blend of in-person, online and virtual instruction to assist with some of the continued challenges presented as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., the college will present two commencement ceremonies to celebrate its graduates. Both exercises will be held in the Arthur Shores Fine Arts Gymnasium on the Birmingham West Campus of Lawson State Community College located at 3060 Wilson Road S.W., Birmingham, AL 35221.
Administrators at Lawson State made the decision to acknowledge the accomplishments of the Fall Class of 2021 as well as past graduates with an in-person ceremony, the first that the college has held since the start of the pandemic. The college will announce the degrees and certificates to a total of 163 students who have met eligibility requirements for completion. There will be 97 past graduates celebrated for the morning ceremony and 66 Summer and Fall 2021 graduates celebrated for the afternoon ceremony.
Dr. Cynthia T. Anthony will also be marking these graduations as her first in-person ceremonies as president of Lawson State Community College since her spring appointment by Chancellor Jimmy Baker of the Alabama Community College System.
The college continues to adhere to COVID safety protocols and guidelines, so each candidate for graduation will be permitted two ticketed guests to attend. Masks and social distancing will be encouraged, and the college's Facilities/ Maintenance department will oversee cleaning and sanitation in between ceremonies.
