US FOODS SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO LAWSON STATE STUDENTS

Birmingham, AL (08/30/2021) — In Spring 2021, US Foods Holding Corp. (NYSE: USFD) announced in a press release the opening of the US Foods Scholars Program application period to include scholarship opportunities for students at Lawson State Community College as part of their commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Today, Lawson State is proud to announce two students were awarded the US Foods Scholarship in the amount of $20,000 each: Imani Bonner and Alec Lockridge. These scholarships will aid in supporting their continued culinary or hospitality education, in addition to having access to training opportunities with US Foods culinary professionals.

A native of Birmingham, AL, Imani Bonner is a culinary arts major who looks forward to learning about cuisines from other countries as a US Foods Scholar. Citing Gordan Ramsay, Yolanda Gampp, and Natalie Sideserf as her cooking idols, Bonner has a goal of opening her own food truck, then a cafe or bakery.

A native of Gainesville, FL., Alec Lockridge is also a first-year food business management major who hopes to one day own and operate his own restaurant in Atlanta or New York. "I have a duty to give 100% effort for everything I do, especially at Lawson State. It means I have to be ready to bring my work home and continue to hone my craft, even when not being watched or graded," Lockridge said.

Currently, 33 US Foods Scholars have earned or are actively working toward their degrees, while another 18 students, including Imani and Alec, are joining the program this year. Learn more about the program and the newest recipients here.

About the US Foods Scholarship Program

The program is administered with the support of Scholarship America, C-CAP and the American Culinary Federation. All US Foods Scholars are selected through a formal application process and each applicant is evaluated based on several criteria, including academic performance, financial need and a personal essay. The scholarship recipient must be pursuing a two-year associate degree in the Culinary Arts or related discipline, including, but not limited to, Culinary Science, Baking and Pastry Arts and Food Business Management, or be pursuing a four-year bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management.
