Lawson State Community College Awarded the Alabama STEM Learning Ecosystem Planning Incentive (SLEPI)
Birmingham, AL (02/02/2024) — Lawson State Community College will be awarded up to $50,000 to advance STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, workforce development and economic growth in the region. This statewide initiative, led by the Alabama STEM Council in partnership with TIES (Teaching Institute for Excellence in STEM) and funded by the State of Alabama works to continue collective efforts to create regional STEM Learning Ecosystems that foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders, including businesses, educational institutions and government entities.
Lawson State's STEM department applied and became a top contender to receive the funding. "Your successful application reflects the commitment and vision you bring to the critical progress of building a connected STEM Learning Ecosystem," said Rene McNeal of the Alabama STEM Council.
The SLEPI provides a valuable opportunity for organizations, such as Lawson State, to contribute to developing a sustainable statewide culture of entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic prosperity.
"Thank you to Mrs. McNeal and the STEM Council, for selecting our institution for this wonderful opportunity. We are grateful and excited to develop and implement impactful solutions in STEM within our communities, said Dr. Shawanda Thomas, STEM director and mathematics instructor.
