Lawson State Community College Celebrates Fall Commencement 2023
Father and Daughter Prepare to Graduate
Birmingham, AL (12/14/2023) — A father-daughter duo is preparing to walk across the stage together on Friday December 15, 2023 at Lawson State Community College at 10:00 a.m. in the Arthur Shores Fine Arts Building (Birmingham Campus). Melvin Holcombe and his daughter Melaneisha Holcombe are both graduating from the Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning and Refrigeration program.
When speaking with Mr. Holcombe about his journey and how he feels now that it is over, he responded like only a father would. "It Feels good, very good. We motivated one another in the classroom and now we're going to graduate together," he said.
Mr. Holcombe is not new to Lawson State. He previously attended the college from 1994-1996, and graduated with a degree in Drafting and Design Technology. When asked what stood out most about his time spent at Lawson State he said, "I had very caring teachers, they cared just as much about the students as they did about teaching them. They bend over backwards for you, you could call them any time of day or night."
Melaneisha is excited about graduation and is honored to walk across the stage alongside her dad. "I consider my dad my best friend, I talk to him about everything so it was a good thing to take classes with him and I'm happy that we are graduating together," said Melaneisha Holcombe.
Not only is the duo graduating together they both currently work for the United States Postal Service. Melvin Holcombe is also a proud member of the U.S. Marines and the duo's ultimate goal is to start a family HVAC business.
The Fall Commencement Ceremony will take place on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Arthur Shores Fine Arts Building, on the Birmingham Campus of Lawson State Community College (3060 Wilson Road, Birmingham, Alabama 35221).
