LAWSON STATE ANNOUNCES NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AND INTERIM BASEBALL COACH
Birmingham, AL (06/03/2022) — Today, Lawson State Community College President Cynthia T. Anthony announced the appointments of Dr. Eric Agee, Jr. and Mr. Thomas Lowery to key positions within the college's athletic department.
Dr. Eric Agee, Jr. was appointed as athletic director for Lawson State. Agee has been employed at the college for twelve years, having served as a physical education instructor, fitness coach, and department chair for health and physical education. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Agee attended Shelby County High School and earned a bachelor's degree in fitness leadership and a master's degree in Health Studies from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He has also earned a doctorate in higher education administration with an emphasis on community college leadership from Northern Illinois University.
Mr. Thomas Lowery has been appointed as the interim baseball coach for Lawson State. Coach Lowery spent 2018-2020 at the college and returned in the Fall of 2021 as an assistant baseball coach. He was also a standout baseball player at UAB, ranking among the best pitchers in the program's history. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Coach Lowery attended Pelham High School and earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise science from UAB.
"We are pleased to announce Dr. Agee and Coach Lowery for these roles, as they both have experience in the college's athletic department and have demonstrated leadership in guiding our student athletes to excellence," said Dr. Anthony.
Both appointments were effective Wednesday, June 1, 2022.
