LAWSON STATE WILL ANNOUNCE A NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH MILES COLLEGE ON TUESDAY

BIRMINGHAM, AL (July 12, 2021) Students obtaining an associate's degree at Lawson State Community College (LSCC) will now experience an ease of transfer to obtain a bachelor's degree at Miles College. Both presidents of the two institutions will announce on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing.

The MOU signing will include Lawson State President Cynthia T. Anthony and Miles College President Bobbie Knight along with select staff from both colleges including LSCC Vice President for Instructional Services Dr. Bruce Crawford and Miles College Vice President and Provost Dr. Jarralyn Agee and others. This will be the first MOU signing Dr. Anthony has participated in since becoming the president of Lawson State Community College.

With this new agreement, many opportunities will be available to Lawson State students who wish to continue their studies at Miles College. After completing 64 transferable hours or obtaining an associate's degree from LSCC, Miles College will provide admissions to Lawson State students and/or alumni who possess at least a GPA of 2.0 in their core curriculum or a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. All students participating in the Miles College/ Lawson State transfer agreement will have their application fee waived. Also, Miles College and Lawson State academic advisors will collaborate to ensure that all Lawson State students who plan to transfer to Miles College receive ongoing academic advising during their tenure at Lawson State Community College.

The MOU signing will take place at Lawson State Community College in the Academic Success Center of the Birmingham Campus at 9:30 a.m. (3060 Wilson Road SW, Birmingham, AL 35221).

With two campuses located in Bessemer and Birmingham, Alabama, Lawson State Community College provides seamless administrative processes and educational support services for students, members of the community, and other constituents. Lawson State is composed of two main divisions--an academic division and a career/technical division and prepares students for gainful employment and career advancement through comprehensive offerings including college transfer, workforce development, adult education, and dual enrollment programs.
